Helen Thomas began conducting in Autumn 2017 after attending the Royal Philharmonic Society Women Conductors programme where she received coaching and encouragement from Alice Farnham.  Since then she has deputized for the conductors of the University of Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, Southport Orchestra, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Orchestra, and Ormskirk Music Society.  In Summer 2018 she attended the Practical Conducting Course at Sherborne Summer School and received tuition from Rudolfo Saglimbeni and John Longstaff.  She was appointed as conductor of the Chester Sinfonia in September 2018 and she continues her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music Conducting Course for Music Educators.  Helen has a PhD in music and lectures at the University of Liverpool where she also runs the very popular Lunchtime Concert Series.  She is a keen oboe and cor anglais player and plays with Orchestra dell'arte, Wirral Symphony Orchestra and the Liverpool Bach Collective.
